TN Massage Law Class and Rules update

We’re in a new CE cycle, and all TN LMTs have take a 2-hour TN Massage Law class before the end of 2012.  BUT DON’T TAKE A TN LAW CLASS UNTIL the revised rules are released later this year  (probably not before the August 2011 Board meeting).  This way you will be up-to-date on any changes that were decided on last year but don’t go into effect until posted on the TN MLB website.  I will offer the class after the new rules are in effect.

Current rules are at:    http://www.state.tn.us/sos/rules/0870/0870.htm

TN Continuing Education Audits

At the February TN Massage Board meeting, the Board decided to begin 100% audits for compliance with the 25-hour per cycle requirement. If you did not get your 25 hours during the 2007-2008 or 2009-2010 cycles, it is too late. Make sure you have your records, and wait for the audit notice. The rules require us to keep record for 4 years. To read the Policy, go to http://health.state.tn.us/boards/Massage/PDFs/Policy_Continuing_Ed_Violations.pdf. You can then calculate any upcoming penalties, and begin saving up.

TN Massage Law Class

We’re in a new CE cycle, and all TN LMTs have take the 2-hour TN Massage Law class.  BUT,… DON’T TAKE THIS CLASS UNTIL the revised rules are released later this year – hopefully in May. That way you will be up-to-date on any changes that were decided on last year but won’t go into effect until reviewed and “published.”

Geriatrics and Tai Chi

From Dr. Paul Lam’s Newsletter:

“The New York Times on March 10, 2011 reported that the American Geriatrics Society and the British Geriatrics Society have updated their guidelines for preventing falls in older people. There were two notable changes and one was recommending tai chi, the meditative, slow-motion Chinese exercise, as an effective way to prevent falls. As more studies show tai chi’s health giving effect, the usefulness of tai chi in most, if not all chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease becomes widely accepted. It has turned into an important healthcare strategy around the world. While there are many resources on tai chi, there are hardly any which focus on the teaching of tai chi. Teaching tai chi effectively and safely is vital.”
