About/Contact
Charles West, LMT, dba MassageWorks
I began MassageWorks in 1994 after an injury and after seeing & experiencing Steve Citty doing chair massage at a health fair in the Candy Factory in Knoxville. I soon began massage training which included the same chair massage training as taught by David Palmer. David had been the Director of The Amma Institute in San Francisco and developed a seated routine or kata to get his students out into the community doing more hands-on. He later established On-Site Enterprises which later became the TouchPro Institute.
In 2002, I began studying kinesiology with Arlene Green at the US Kinesiology Institute in Chapel Hill, NC, and , in 2003, became a Touch for Health® Kinesiology Certified Instructor. Continued studies included the Professional Kinesiology Program which led to my becoming a Certified K-Power® Instructor in 2008.
In 2006, I did a 200-hour intensive at the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, CA, for Acupressure for Stress.
My bodywork is now primarily a meridian balancing approach in combination with Western neuromuscular/myofascial (neuromyofascial?) techniques.
MassageWorks became an Approved Provider for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork in 2008. And, in 2010, MassageWorks became an Approved Provider for Florida.
In 2009, I became a Certified Instructor for Dr. Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Arthritis and Tai Chi for Beginners.
